NexT shorts can be seen this year in Bucurestii Noi, Giulesti, Pantelimon, Floreasca, Drumul Taberei and Tineretului. The friendliest shorts of the festival can be seen at NexT in the Hood, in a series of unprecedented open-air screenings, in the vicinity of former cinemas, now closed. In the same spirit, the long awaited Oscars Night returns for the 11th edition, this time also outdoors in Parcul Tineretului. The event is for the whole family and has been created as a picnic and cinema, under clear skies. Entrance is free for all the screenings.

Although most of Bucharest’s neighborhood cinemas have been closed, NexT strongly believes that love for cinema continues to exist, and therefore, it meets the inhabitants of Bucharest with shorts in their own neighborhoods, with the desire to bring the community together.

NexT in the Hood features five shorts from this year’s festival selection:

The Kingdom, directed by Francesco Fanuele, tells the story of Giacomo who, after his father’s death, discovers that the family estate has turned into an autonomous kingdom with its own subjects, its own laws and its own currency, and has to make an important decision: to become the legal heir or to flee this absurd kingdom.

The short is part of the International Competition at NexT 2017.

Tudor and Ioana divorced six months ago, without announcing their daughter who if off, studying. When she returns home, the two decide to move together again for the duration of her visit. Ana Comes Home is directed by Emilian Floareş.

The short is part of the National Competition at NexT 2017.

Leshy by Pavel Soukoup: Karel takes care of the forest and the game with great passion. In a remote part of the same forest, the poachers awaken a creature called Leshy who might prove to be Karel’s equal.

The films will introduce you to Zsofi from Sing  – a girl who finds it hard to adapt to her new school, finding solace in singing in the school choir; with Elise (The Railroad Lady directed by Timo von Gunten) who has a secret habit: every morning and evening, for many years, she greets the trains passing by her house, and with Inger, that falls in love with an illegal immigrant from the shelter where she works in Silent Nights. Timecode (Juajo Gimenez, winner of Palme d’Or-ului in 2016) presents Luna and Diego, two guards in a parking lot, always working on different shifts, and Enemies Within (Selim Azzazi) show two men, placed by faith, on different sides of the same barricade.

The Oscars Night shorts can be watched Sunday, 25 June, starting with 21.30 in Parcul Tineretului, in the area on the left side of Sala Polivalentă, close to the playgrounds.
