Pakistan, 2018, 23′

Mariam is determined to escape her conservative family, by pursuing a secret romance online. When her mother suggests an arranged marriage, she refuses, saying she needs time. With the clock ticking, her romance takes a dark twist, revealing the extremes that Mariam will go to keep her relationship alive.

Director

Hamza Bangash is a Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker and playwright. His artistic practice is informed by his
experience growing up as a first-generation immigrant and ethnic minority. He graduated in 2014, with a
dual degree in Theatre and Film from Queen’s University. In 2016, he was selected for the “Qalambaaz”
Screenwriting Fellowship, where he was mentored by BFI-winning writer, Zak Sheikh. Encouraged by his
fellowship experience, he dove into his first short film, Rang Raaz. In 2017, the film screened in Canada,
Africa and India, and was purchased for North American broadcast by “ZEE TV”. In 2018, he participated
in the Goethe Institute and Prince Claus “Pak-Afghan Film Talents” Program, where the idea for his next
short film developed. The short film Dia recently had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, as
part of Open Doors screenings, curated by Venice Film Festival’s programming consultant, Paolo
Bertolin.

Óðinn Ingibergsson is from Copenhagen. He studied Musicology, at the University of Copenhagen,
earning a BA in Phonomusicology, which is the art of sound production in music. He began his work as a
sound engineer for “BTI” studio, where he worked for 3 years. Here, he learned to record, edit and mix for
Scandinavian language versions of cartoons, for clients such as “Disney”, “Cartoon Network”, and many
more. Returning to his studies, he graduated from the National Film and Television School, with a
Masters’ in Sound Design for film and TV.
